Earth Run Foundation organizes a series of 5K and 10K run/walk events every year to promote awareness and raise money for various environmental organizations and initiatives. All of our runs are designed to be green, with minimal environmental impacts.
Earth Run and its vendors follow a number of guidelines to ensure a green, environmentally conscious event:
- We provide a bicycle valet to encourage alternate forms of transportation.
- We aim for a goal of zero landfill waste, supplying and using multiple bins for waste management at booths: composting, bottle/can recycling, paper, cardboard and garbage.
- Earth Run and its vendors limit handouts of paper brochures, show bags, samples, and promotional items.
- We use compostable or reusable food and beverage packaging instead of polystyrene or plastic cups, plates, and utensils.
- We reduce or eliminate pre-wrapped food and single-serve products where possible.
- This is a water bottle-free festival: no bottled water is sold or sampled on-site at festival. Free water stations are available for festival attendees.
- Vendors sell or give away reusable, paper, or compostable shopping bags and other items.
- Earth Run Expo vendors specialize in local, organic, and fair-trade products, and they use renewable or eco-friendly materials in their operations, manufacturing or production.
- We try to use clean, renewable energy sources wherever possible. We compensate for any nonrenewable energy use through carbon offsets.
- Signage and banners are printed on sustainable materials.
Race participants can either run as individuals or as members of a team. Each run will include an expo featuring local organizations, food, and sustainable products where participants can learn about environmental initiatives significant to their area.
In cities, communities and schools around the world – big or small – you can host an Earth Runs by organizing a 5 or 10K run/walk. For more information, please contact us at info@earthrun.com.
For 2012, Earth Run has also expanded into a worldwide virtual run, significantly expanding our accessibility and geographical influence. More information on the virtual Earth Run can be found here.
